Historic Village Eclectic

RESIDENTIAL PROJECT

This historic village home has an eclectic mix of Gothic and Craftsman architecture. The home has stunning river views and tons of character.
The main goal of the landscape program was to retain the historic integrity while giving it a clean, edgy finish. This was accomplished by embracing dark colors and integrating locally sourced steel, pea stone and bluestone. The existing brick hardscape was pared back and repurposed in new ways.

The front yard goals were to re-wild the landscape while enlarging the horizontal layout to complement the strong vertical lines of the house. The goal of planting plan was to screen any unsightly views while opening up sight lines to the Hudson River.

The South facing rear property became simplified by breaking down the existing complicated levels and grades. Wall stone was repurposed in new fresh walls and again brick and gravel became the themed accent. The renovation of the barn tied in harmoniously with the landscape renovation. The crowning glory … a modern outdoor kitchen by WWOO California frames the lounge area yet provides a natural “rail” on the upper lounge patio. Cor Ten steel steps with a hollow gravel filled riser, provide circulation and ease to the lower grass area. In addition, they allow drainage and structure to support the transition.
