Upper Nyack, NY
The design of a Rivertown property with subtle views to the Hudson River involved connecting the classic architecture of the home with its surrounding sloped landscape. A young couple with three children desired outdoor spaces to entertain, play, grow and relax. Picking up cues from the soothing, coastal interior design, an elegant Cottage garden, driving the aesthetic behind the finished landscape. Opposing fieldstone curved walls helped terrace the rear property and provide pockets for classic plantings such as spray roses artfully intermingled with native grasses and perennials. The four-season planting scheme starts with a Spring display of bulbs and commences with a summer explosion of blues, purples and whites. The central entertainment space features a fractured bluestone patio with views to the water feature and surrounding woodland border. Casual paths and a secret garden gate help connect play spaces for neighboring children and friends.
