Upper Nyack, NY
In Upper Nyack, NY a modern sculptural garden was created using an array of angular materials. A steeply sloped backyard, that was unusable for a growing family with two young children, was transformed by creating usable spaces to lounge, dwell and play. By integrating poured concrete retaining walls juxtaposed with Corten steel steps, the family is now able to enjoy upper terraces with panoramic views to the Hudson River. The crushed gravel material using in the various terraces and steps, creates permeability and gently aids in drainage of the upper watershed. Native plantings of trees, shrubs and grasses were used to soften the walls and create intimacy around upper patios. The main dining areas include a bluestone patio.
