Van Houten Fields Kitchen

Residential Project

Within this West Nyack home located in the Historic Van Houten Fields an outdated kitchen was reborn. Taking cues from the Cottage architecture of the home the kitchen was reimagined with classic British Cottage design in mind. The old, cramped u-shaped kitchen was scrapped and a wall was removed to create a more open kitchen experience, complete with an eat in nook. The color scheme throughout played with warm and cool tones. Lower shaker cabinets were custom painted in shades of grays whilst the center island was painted a deep navy. Open shelving in reclaimed lumber creates an open feeling while staying true to the cottage feel. A Ferrari yellow stove picked out by the client stands out strikingly against the otherwise neutral palette of the kitchen. Custom shelves were created in the west end of the kitchen to create an open pantry. The shelves were scribed along the original stonework of the cottage. Custom touches throughout lend to the bespoke feel of this kitchen. This outdated kitchen was brought to modern times while embracing a historic and lived in feel.
